Golder has a new opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Pittsburgh-area office in Wexford, PA on a full-time basis. This entry-level position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on civil, geotechnical, and geological engineering projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and outdoor “hands-on” activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, solve problems, and provide proactive communication.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Engaging in a team environment, working closely with projectmanagers and other co-workers to complete work programs and communicate siteconditions, observations, and activities
Supporting subsurface field investigations, followinginstruction and applying soil and rock classifications, drilling and samplingtechniques, and hydrogeologic aquifer testing procedures
Accurately documenting field activities (e.g., field forms,field notebooks, daily reports)
Coordinating with and providing oversight of subcontractors(e.g., laboratories, drillers)
Operating field vehicles safely on behalf of the company
Handling equipment, including maintenance, calibration, andoperation, in accordance with regulatory requirements; and ability to lift and movea minimum of 50 pounds without assistance
Contributing to geotechnical data and recommendation reportswith senior review by compiling and assisting with evaluation of the fieldinvestigation data, including calculations, modeling and tabulation of results;preparation of geologic and geotechnical borehole logs, subsurfacecross-sections, and groundwater interpretation; and writing reports,specifications, permit documents, and cost estimating, with senior technicaladvice and review
Assisting with the scoping and budgeting of subsurfaceinvestigations and engineering design projects
Collecting environmental samples (e.g., soil, rock,groundwater, surface water, air) in compliance with State and Federalrequirements
Working outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions
Ability to complete field events at least 75% of workinghours, as needed
Willingness to travel at least 75% of schedule forout-of-town project opportunities, including periods of more than five days
Ability to work extended daily hours and on weekends andholidays, as needed
Safelyperforming work, both in the field and office
The successful candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in civil/geotechnicalengineering or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred
While minimal experience is required, atleast one year of experience (including internships) in the civil/geotechnical engineeringfield is preferred
Additional desirable skills/experience include: geotechnical design (slope stability,settlement, earth retention, foundations, rock engineering, etc.), geotechnicalcomputational analyses, field logging and sampling, general civil design,construction support, or other geotechnical analyses
FE registration will receive primaryconsideration
Excellent verbal and written communicationskills combined with excellent analytical abilities, leadership ability, apositive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups
Willingness to perform a variety of assignmentson short notice is valuable
Strong attention to detail; accuracy isessential
Strong computer skills, includingMicrosoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word); preferential consideration forcandidates with experience in geotechnical design (Slide, LPILE, etc.) logging(gINT, pLog), and drafting (AutoCAD) software.
Preferential consideration for prior safetytraining completion (OSHA, eRailsafe, MSHA, etc.)
Understanding of the importance of health &safety as a top priority and an enthusiasm to participate in Golder’sassociated programs
